Assessments

At Evidence Based Psychological Care, Inc., we take a collaborative and comprehensive approach to neuropsychological and psychological evaluations. Our licensed psychologists and neuropsychologists are trained in a variety of assessment techniques and strive to create a supportive and comfortable environment for clients and their families. We believe in the importance of thorough assessment, clear communication, collaboration, and individualized recommendations to empower our patients to achieve their goals and improve their quality of life. Our team of experienced professionals is dedicated to understanding the unique needs of each child and providing evidence-based assessments tailored to understanding their strengths and challenges.

Comprehensive Neuropsychological Evaluations

Neuropsychological evaluations explore the brain functions underlying cognition, learning, behavior, and social-emotional development. using standardized test measures. Testing involves paper-and-pencil tasks, interactive questions, hands-on activities, and iPad/computer-based measures. The evaluation process also includes an in-depth parent interview, review of records, and collaboration with additional providers (e.g., teachers, health care providers, therapists). Recommendations for treatment and educational accommodations are provided at the end as well as a written report.

Psychological Evaluations

A psychological evaluation is a thorough assessment to gather information about an individual's psychological and personality functioning, strengths, challenges, and well-being. This process involves a variety of assessment tools, including standardized tests, interviews, observations, and self-report measures, tailored to the specific concerns and goals of the individual.

Who Can Benefit from an Evaluation?

Neuropsychological and/or psychological evaluations can benefit individuals of all ages and backgrounds, including children, adolescents, adults, and families. These evaluations are often recommended for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Diagnostic Clarity: When symptoms are complex or overlapping, a psychological evaluation can help clarify a diagnosis, such as ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, learning disabilities, or developmental delays.

  • Treatment Planning: A thorough assessment can inform treatment planning by identifying strengths, weaknesses, and individualized interventions that are most likely to be effective.

  • Educational Accommodations: For students experiencing academic difficulties, a psychological evaluation can identify learning disabilities or other cognitive challenges that may require educational accommodations or specialized interventions.

  • Emotional and Behavioral Concerns: Individuals struggling with emotional or behavioral difficulties, such as depression, anxiety, behavioral problems, or trauma-related issues, can benefit from a psychological evaluation to better understand underlying factors and develop targeted interventions.

Psychodiagnostic Evaluations

Each intake begins with a solid evaluation using clinical interview, review of relevant records, and empirical questionnaires. Additional assessment measures may be included as needed.

Cognitive & Behavioral Therapies (CBT)

Cognitive Behavior Therapy encompasses a variety of therapeutic approaches all of which draw connections between emotions as motivating factors and the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that ensue. CBT is an efficacious treatment approach for a variety of presenting conditions across the lifespan.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Training

Please note, EBPC, Inc. does not provide comprehensive DBT services. We do provide DBT skills training for adolescents, adults, and parents experiencing intense and distressing emotions including anxiety, depression, and self-harm or suicidal ideation. DBT skills services are available as part of individual therapy services or as an additional service for those seeking individualized skills training in a one-on-one format rather group setting. Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)

ERP is a highly effective therapeutic approach for decreasing avoidance and reducing distress secondary to Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders (OCD), anxiety disorders, and trauma. ERP involves reducing avoidance and increasing approach of feared stimuli through active, exposure-based therapy.

Behavioral Activation (BA)

Behavioral Activation is an active treatment approach that increases goal-directed behavior and decreases mood-dependent behavior to increase activity, life satisfaction, and fulfillment. BA has been tested in adults and teens and found to be effective in reducing depression symptoms and decreasing avoidance and improving mood.

Mindfulness-Based Therapies

Mindfulness-based therapies help patients increase awareness around current experiences of emotions, thoughts, and behavior to help increase well-being and decrease suffering. Meditation and mindfulness-practices are found to be important components of evidence-based practices and are incorporated into our work with individuals and families in a manner tailored to the developmental needs of the patient.

Parent Management Training & Parenting Consultations

We offer several parent training therapies ideally suited for parents of children with ADHD, behavior problems (e.g., ODD), and emotion dysregulation. Through a series of targeted and systematic modules, parents will gain skills that increase parent and child organizational skills, behavioral regulation, family cohesion, improve relationships with siblings, and reduce parental distress. We apply evidence based methods from PMT, DBT, and PCIT when working with parents and families.

Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE)

Several of our providers are trained in SPACE, SPACE AFRID and SPACE Failure to Launch. This therapeutic method targets parental behaviors and accommodations that may maintain anxiety symptoms and OCD in children, teens, and young adults. This therapy approach works with parents directly on behaviors that may be modifiable and under the control of parents to help achieve fast and lasting results.

Collaboration with Prescribers

When applicable we work closely with prescribing physicians including primary physicians, pediatricians and psychiatrists to help clients achieve their treatment goals. This may include measuring and tracking medication effectiveness or helping individuals adjust and/or discontinue medication.
